exciting stuff

Anyone done hosting with GoDaddy? I got this bitchin’ idea for a website.

Just got done with a novel opening workshop over at Forward Motion, one of the best yet.

If you’ve never checked them out you should, it’s a great place.

And my copy of Ragamuffin finally arrived! This is going to be good. 😀

My spouse, after coming home from work, always brings in the mail. Today, a package sat on the counter.

“What’s that?” I ask.

“Oh, that got sent to us by mistake, it’s for someone else.”

(Guess I forgot to tell the spouse what my pen name is, cause it’s addressed to me. From Tobias Buckell.)

So after explaining it to the spouse (who by this time is curious as to why I’m getting mail to another name and btw, who’s Tobias Buckell?) I open it and

it’s an Advance Uncorrected Proof for Sly Mongoose!

Which does not come out until August.

(I emailed Tobias just to make sure I was really supposed to have this.)

Now, you know how much I have been waiting for my paperback copy of Ragamuffin to get here … I’m about ready to go to the library and get a copy just so I can read it. No, I’m going to B&N. My daughter’s been begging to go for a couple weeks now. Amazon won’t send my copy until June 3rd and this is serious business now.

I just got hold of Page-Turning Scenes by Holly Lisle, which will be available at her site tomorrow. I’ve had a chance to look at a few excerpts and so far so good!

Hopefully I can get a review up here in the next day or two.

… to the readers coming by from Double Consciousness. I’m honored to have one of my articles chosen for the March Erase Racism Carnival.

You ever get an idea for a story you’re writing that excites you about it all over again? I just got one like that for Esfera Valerosa … both incredibly geeky, and involving the Mayan calendar. Heh.

This one is top secret, for now!

John Scalzi gives his kinda-annual talk about money.

I made $164,000 last year from my writing. I’ve averaged more than $100,000 in writing income for the last ten years, which means, for those of you who don’t want to bother with the math, that I’ve made more than a million dollars from my writing in the last decade. In 2000, I wrote a book on finance, The Rough Guide to Money Online. For several years I wrote personal finance newsletters for America Online. When I do corporate consulting, it’s very often been for financial services companies like Oppenheimer Funds, US Trust and Warburg Pincus. I mention this to you so that you know that when I offer you, the new, aspiring and dewey-eyed writer, the following entirely unsolicited advice about money, you’ll know I’m not talking entirely out of my ass.

A great read.
