I saw a description of a blog the other day: “a writer who aspires to be an author.”

Can someone tell me the difference?

au·thor n.

1.a. The writer of a book, article, or other text.

b. One who practices writing as a profession.

 

writ·er n.

One who writes, especially as an occupation.

 

It may be that the person was using 1. b. as their definition of “author,” but it seems to me that if you’re going to make a blog about being a writer, and you’ve written anything at all, then by definition, you’re an author.

 

That’s why I say on this site that I am a

 

nov·el·ist n.

A writer of novels.
